Remembering Private William Saunders, Company A of the Fifteenth Kentucky

William Saunders was born in Shelby County, Kentucky. A twenty-year-old farmer when he enlisted, Saunders was 5’7 ½”, with a light complexion, blue eyes and dark hair. Private Saunders was wounded at the Battle of Stones River, captured, and paroled on January 2, 1863. Saunders died of his wounds on January 6, 1863 in a field hospital near Murfreesboro.
